Defiant vs Fitbod

Fitbod and Defiant both decide what you lift, from opposite directions. Fitbod builds a fresh workout each day. Defiant keeps your plan fixed and works out every set inside it. Which suits you depends on how much you want to choose.

Round 1: Planning

Fitbod's big idea is that you never plan: it picks exercises, sets, reps and weight each day from your equipment, history and a muscle recovery model. Defiant expects a plan, whether you build it, pick one of 26, or answer eight questions, and then sets every weight inside it. Neither is better in general; they suit different people.

Round 2: Following a program

Because Fitbod varies workouts, following a fixed routine or a named program in it is hard. In Defiant that's the default, and the program's structure stays exactly as written while the weights adapt.

Round 3: Reading the progression

Fitbod's progression uses non-linear periodization, which can make it hard to tell why today's numbers are what they are. Defiant shows "Why this target?" on every set, rule by rule.

Round 4: Gyms

Fitbod has gym profiles, each with its own equipment and weight increments. Defiant has the same, plus separate machine history per gym, so a leg press at home and one at work don't share numbers.

Round 5: Devices and integrations

Fitbod runs on Android as well as iPhone and connects to Strava and Fitbit. Defiant is iPhone and Apple Watch only, with Apple Health.

Round 6: Price

Fitbod is $95.99 a year or $15.99 a month after a trial. Defiant will be $69.99 a year or $9.99 a month, and the first 1,000 downloads get Pro free for life.

  • Android, Strava and Fitbit
  • A large, established user base

Where Defiant wins

  • Follow your own plan or a named program
  • Targets explained set by set
  • Separate machine history per gym

Switching from Fitbod

  1. In Fitbod's settings, export your workout data as a CSV. Save the file to Files, or AirDrop it to your iPhone.
  2. In Defiant, go to Settings → Your data → Import from another app, and choose the file.
  3. Set up your plan: answer eight questions and Defiant builds one, pick one of 26 programs, or rebuild your own routine.
  • Every workout and set comes across, including warm-ups, cardio and notes.
  • Fitbod's export has no workout names, so Defiant names each workout after the muscles it trained, like "Glutes & Quads".

Questions

Is Defiant better than Fitbod?

If you want to follow your own routine or a known program with targets on every set, yes. If you'd rather the app plan a new workout every day, Fitbod is built for that.

Does Defiant generate workouts like Fitbod?

Not daily. Defiant builds a full plan once, from eight questions, and then adapts the weights and reps inside it every session.

Can I import my Fitbod history?

Yes. Export your workout data from Fitbod's settings and import the CSV in Defiant. Your first targets will be based on it.
